Pro and Ultra are billed in USD, monthly or yearly. Monthly is a rolling month you can stop whenever you like: $15 for Pro, $25 for Ultra. Yearly is 2 months free — $150 a year for Pro ($12.50/month) and $250 for Ultra ($20.83/month), charged once and renewing yearly. The plan itself is identical either way, and the included pool still refreshes every month rather than once a year. You can start on Free with no credit card. Get Pro or Get Ultra above takes a new author through sign-up to checkout; if you already have an account, upgrade in Settings under Pro & Ultra plans. Pay by card or PayPal.

Cancel anytime in Settings → Billing. Auto-renewal stops as soon as you cancel. You keep paid-plan access until the end of the period you already paid for, then the account returns to Free (full Story Studio plus your own AI key) with every book, chapter and export still there. There is no prorated refund for unused days in the current period — same as stated on the in-app cancel screen.

If a charge looks incorrect, or you were billed after you thought you had cancelled, contact us with the email on the account. We will look at the Stripe or PayPal invoice. Do not send card numbers in email.

Free trial: 7 days of Pro, once per account, for authors who have not had Pro before. It needs a card. Cancel before it ends (Settings → Billing) and nothing is charged; the account returns to Free with every book. Otherwise it becomes Pro at $15 a month. The trial writes 3 chapters with Claude Opus, with roughly 13,000–29,000 words of the Pro pool for everything else; a paid month includes roughly 38,000–82,000 words. The whole-book tools (Kestrel on the whole book, fixing, renaming or translating across every chapter, the consistency check, overnight drafting, the pacing map, overused words, the synopsis and query letter, and the audiobook narration export) start with the first paid month. Starting Pro early from Settings → Billing begins the full month that day.

Pause instead of cancelling: card subscribers on a monthly plan can pause billing for one, two or three months from the cancel screen. Nothing is charged while paused, the words already in this month's pool stay usable, and billing restarts by itself.

Word top-ups ($5) on Pro and Ultra are one-time additions to the current cycle. They are not a separate subscription, and nothing is bought automatically unless you switch on automatic top-ups and set a monthly limit. Unused top-up words do not roll into a cancelled Free account as a paid pool.

Free is a real novel studio, not a demo that locks export. AI runs on your own key, one chapter per press; the whole-book tools are Pro and Ultra. You can outline, edit by hand, run diffs, lock chapters, fill Publish listing fields, and export EPUB/DOCX/PDF.

Your first book's outline and chapter 1 are on us. After that, each chapter runs on the AI key you connect, as fast as your provider allows, and the provider bills you directly. Edits you make by hand use no AI at all; if a paragraph is wrong, rewrite it or run a scoped polish instead of regenerating the whole chapter.

That is enough to finish a novel one chapter at a time. Pro is the upgrade when you want Claude Opus to finish every chapter, the whole book written or fixed in one go, and no key to manage.
