Can I write books free with AI on Entangled Text?
Yes. Sign up with no credit card. Included Kestrel — Free covers Story Wizard and typically outline + 3 new chapters/day (edits don’t use a daily chapter slot). Filling Story Wizard fields does not spend AI; generating or regenerating an outline does, as do chapter drafts. Pro and Ultra add Kestrel — Pro / Ultra — stronger prose and a monthly pool (Ultra is larger).
Do I need a paid subscription?
No. Free is the full Story Studio: Story Wizard, outlines, chapter drafting, manuscript editing, and Kindle/KDP export with included Kestrel — Free. Pace is typically outline + 3 new chapters/day (edits don’t use a slot; progress saves; resume after the daily reset). Entangled Text is a writing studio, not a reading platform — new books cannot be published on this site. Free Word, PDF, Markdown and plain text downloads include a short Entangled Text foreword and afterword; the EPUB and the KDP zip are retailer-safe on every plan. Pro and Ultra remove attribution from all formats, add stronger prose AI with a monthly pool, and skip the Free queue.
How do I turn an AI draft into a KDP upload?
Finish the draft in Story Studio, then use the Ship tab for listing details, cover and blurb helpers, and export (EPUB, DOCX, PDF, Markdown, plain text, or a KDP zip). Run cleanup tools before you upload. Full walkthrough: AI draft to KDP. Product reference: the documentation.
Do I need an API key?
No. Customer plans use included Kestrel AI — you do not paste OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or other provider keys. Free uses Kestrel — Free; Pro and Ultra use Kestrel — Pro / Ultra. Personal provider keys are not a Free, Pro, or Ultra feature.
Can I edit a full manuscript?
Yes. Paste a finished draft into Edit a Book for a whole-manuscript pass with chunked, inline diffs you accept or reject before they are saved. In Story Studio you can also edit chapter by chapter in Write, including AI rewrites with the same accept/reject diffs. Both paths are in the documentation.
How much drafting do Pro and Ultra include?
Pro includes built-in drafting that resets each billing period. Rough finished-manuscript guide: about 83k–153k words per period (often ~1–2 novels of ~65k). Ultra is a larger pool of the same powerful model family. Outline, writing instructions/context, polish, retries, and edits all count — not raw output-only capacity. Compare current pools on the pricing page; the documentation explains what spends the allowance.
What genres are supported?
Hand-tuned presets for sci-fi, fantasy (including progression, LitRPG, and cultivation), romance, thriller, horror, mystery, historical, young adult, and more. Each preset includes a writing guide for commercial pacing and tropes; you can override settings after you pick one. The full list is in the documentation.
Can I export to Kindle / KDP?
Yes. From the Ship tab, download EPUB, DOCX, PDF, Markdown, plain text, or a KDP zip (EPUB, cover, blurb, metadata). Entangled Text does not publish new books on this site — you take the file to KDP or another storefront you control. Details are in the documentation.
